"1970 Victory at Le Mans" Limited Edition archival pigment print: Edition of 50

The "Paint Palette Project" concept:
Each piece in this series is created with a color palette limited exclusively to the featured year's exterior colors. For this 1970 Porsche piece, the color palette is limited to the 15 OEM colors available for 1970. The print is printed with a 12 color fine art pigment printer. The original painting (this one is available for commission) painted in the original manufacturers paints, in this case Glasurite.

This framed Limited Edition print depicts the drama as Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood conquered 24 hours of relentless and ever-changing rain to claim victory at Le Mans. On June 14, 1970, Porsche secured their first overall win at Le Mans, and swept the podium with a Martini liveried 917LH finishing second, and a 908/02 in third. Thus 1970 began the extraordinary Le Mans legacy that would eventually make the marque the race’s most successful manufacturer. Hans Herrmann retired from racing immediately afterward, having finally won the one race that had repeatedly eluded him.

The backstory of the Paint Palette Project:
Having already painted a geometric abstract of a 1973 Porsche 911 RS with only OEM Porsche colors, in a meeting over coffee, a collector and I discussed the possibility of creating pictorial imagery with a similar strategy. That led me to prove out the concept using a color palette limited to the 2019 911 to create a pictorial featuring his 2019 GT3 RS. Now the series begins with the 1970 Porsche palette, and a 1954 Mercedes-Benz piece in development.
