"1970 Victory at Spa" Limited Edition archival pigment print: Edition of 50

The "Paint Palette Project" concept:
Each piece in this series is created with a color palette limited exclusively to the featured year's exterior colors. For this 1970 Porsche piece, the color palette is limited to the 15 OEM colors available for 1970, with the addition of Gulf orange and Gulf blue. The print is printed with a 12 color fine art pigment printer. The original painting (this one already commissioned) painted in the original manufacturers paints, in this case Glasurite.

This framed Limited Edition print celebrates the 1970 victory of the 917K at Spa. On May 17, 1970, Jo Siffert and Brian Redman drove the Gulf-liveried #24 Porsche 917K to victory in the Spa 1000 Kilometres on Belgium’s fearsome 14 km original Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The only real contender to Porsche’s dominance was the Ferrari 512S of Jacky Ickx and John Surtees, subtly included in this composition. But the 917’s speed was extraordinary. Siffert and Redman won at an average 149.4 mph, with 1,000 kilometers of road racing completed in just over four hours. Teammate Pedro Rodríguez recorded a 160.5 mph average lap before his car retired, setting a lap time 10 seconds faster than even F1 could reach at the Belgian Grand Prix 3 weeks later!

The backstory of the Paint Palette Project:
Having already painted a geometric abstract of a 1973 Porsche 911 RS with only OEM Porsche colors, in a meeting over coffee, a collector and I discussed the possibility of creating pictorial imagery with a similar strategy. That led me to prove out the concept using a color palette limited to the 2019 911 to create a pictorial featuring his 2019 GT3 RS. Now the series begins with the 1970 Porsche palette, and a 1954 Mercedes-Benz piece in development.
