CUSTOM "A Good Day at Competition Motors" Framed Artist's Proof archival pigment print

$ 1,000.00

Limited to only 10 custom Artist Proofs this season! This weekend only. Framed. Ships in approximately 2 weeks.

This Custom Artist's Proof print features your car as the "hero car", front and center with the backdrop of Competition Motors based on the original art of the "A Good Day at Competition Motors: Limited Edition Print". I’ll work with you to make the hero car, YOUR CAR. It won’t simply be a color change. If you have overriders on your bumpers, a sunroof, baby moons, or deluxe enamel crest hubcaps, we’ll indicate those details. I've also added a Competition Motors logo script with a line to note your make, model, and color, all written in by hand.

The sketches presented here are for concept only. Each vehicle will be executed at the level of detail of the original red, number 11, Gmünd SL. And similar to Jerry's 356/2 - 040 Gmünd coupe. I have sketched up 3 versions. If the hero car is a 356, the background cars stay the same. If the hero car is a Beetle, I will swap the Beetle in the background to a 356 coupe. And if the hero is a Bus, I'll swap the Bus in the background for a Speedster.

It's an archival pigment print on cotton rag watercolor paper. Hand signed, titled, and numbered. This 14x11" matted print ships framed in a 20x16" black aluminum frame.

The original print: In all of my scouring of the internet, I’ve only ever been able to find two photos of the old Competition Motors location on Vine St in Hollywood. For a while now, I’ve been sketching new perspectives that would allow me to tell more of a story, while staying accurate to the architecture and details in every way. Just look at that streetlight, and the PO dropbox, and the striped stop sign post. It’s all about the details…

This new art creates a day in the life at Competition Motors, with a period-correct rotation of Porsche, Volkswagens and Jaguar inventory, as well as the Le Mans-winning 356 Gmünd SL 063 (very recently arrived in the USA) wearing its 1952 Golden Gate Park Road Races livery, and the legendary “Lil Bastard” 550 Spyder visible through the showroom glass.
