A couple years ago, I had the opportunity to design the livery for a 356 Pre-A racing the Carrera Panamericana. In the early 1950s, one 300 SL famously wore a Día de los Muertos-style skull with a Mercedes star for eyes — and my client wondered: What would a Porsche-inspired version look like?
“El Espíritu de Stuttgart” was my answer. Hidden within its lines are the soul of the driver: a shift pattern on the brow, a shifter in the nasal cavity, and a steering wheel in the jaw — subtle nods waiting to be discovered.
