This shirt celebrates the work of master craftsman Rob Ida. It recognizes a shared reverence for history, design, and craftsmanship. This new, original design depicts "The Black Cat", a Jaguar XK120 recently reimagined by Rob. Inspired by the Record Car raced in 1953, Rob has taken the design to the next level with a sculpted design of an even more aerodynamic elongated teardrop bubble.
This shirt design began as a rough ink sketch, and has been refined to a period appropriate layout crafted with an original Dwight Knowlton illustration and from a collection of vintage advertising pieces, including the lovely and original "Fastest Production Car" ad sourced on eBay.
The original record car, piloted by Norman Dewis, reached 172.4 mph, SHATTERING previous manufacturer records. Having just won Le Mans with the C Type in both 1951 and 53, this proved beyond shadow of doubt for both for design and engineering.
Printed on our super-soft heather blend tee. 4.2-oz. 30 singles (fine thread/tight weave) for extreme softness.
